July 2, 2003:  SOAPBOX:
Gentlemen (and ladies, I guess) this is my personal appeal to all of our golfers to repair ball marks on the greens.  These pictures were taken about 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening, July 1st, after a full day of men's day golf.  It is the front 15' or so of #1 green, and the number of ballmarks present is incredible!  I quit counting after I reached 40.  None of these marks are the big ones created by a high, falling wedge shot.  Most are the kind created when a lower shot (5 iron?) hits on and skips forward several feet.  Everyone needs to realize that those shots create ball marks as well.  I'm begging everyone to please, please, please, repair your ball mark any time your ball lands on the green.   And, while you've got that divot tool in your hand, see if you can fix a few others while you're at it.  Click the pictures for the larger version to get the full idea.  Thanks for indulging me. Lifetime Membership
C.C.Blair accepts his honorary lifetime membershipMr. C.C. Blair was honored with an honorary lifetime membership to Lake Valley recently by the Board of Directors, for his "Vision, Wisdom, Dedication, and Perseverance Since Its Inception" in helping establish LVCC. The award was presented during Men’s Stag on Tuesday, November 19, 2002. As you know, Mr. Blair was President of the Board the four years during the time Lake Valley was being constructed and during its first years, and was extremely instrumental in getting our club established on solid footing. Mr. Blair was noticeably surprised and touched by the award, noting that Lake Valley had been a large part of his life since 1966.

September 11, 2002:
Finally, another update to this page!  Sorry folks, the webmaster (me) has been asleep at the wheel for while and hasn't made any updates to this page.  I'll try to correct that and get back on track.  Here's some highlights:

August 26, 2002:   Chris Day,  Chris McElyea, and Jim Besancenez (Mr. B) were elected to three year terms on the Board of Directors and the Annual Membership Meeting.  Congratulations.

September 2002:  The Men's League was such a success that the men have decided to add a short, 5-week, Fall league which started on 9/9/02.   Play in the Fall League is a 2-man scramble format.

UPCOMING EVENTS:
September 16, 2002 (Monday)
The Men's Association Dinner will be held.  The evening will start with a scramble event for those who wish to play, at 5:00 p.m., followed by the annual dinner.  If you played in the Kick-Off you are already paid for the dinner.

October 12/13, 2002:  The First Annual Men's Fall Blow-Out will be held.  The event is an 18-hole, 2-man scramble, flighted by total team handicap.  It is open to club members with established handicaps only.  There will be a party and team auction on Saturday night, followed by the 18-hole play on Sunday afternoon.  This should be a great event!  Be sure to get a partner and sign up soon.

November 2, 2001: Once again we have switched to cart path only through the dormant winter season.  This proved to be a tremendous aide to the health of our bermuda fairways last year.  Also, the greens on #1, #4, and #10 have been rebuilt and are starting to grow.  See the greens rebuilding page

August 27, 2001:
The following men were elected to three year terms on the Board of Directors at last night's Annual Membership meeting:  Mac Green, John Watts, and Fred Goldman.  Congratulations to all three.

July 30, 2001
This past weekend the Men's Member-Guest Tournament was held.  I don't have results yet, but here are a couple photos from the Friday evening Horse Race:

drilling well behind #18 tee (click to enlarge)
June 4, 2001.  Crews from Moreland Well Drilling are busy drilling a 750' deep well on the back side of #18 tee.  This new well will provide additional water to feed our irrigation system and will provide insurance for drought years like we've had the past two summers.

March 19, 2001.
Please welcome Dan Robertson back to Lake Valley as our new Head Professional.     Dan first worked at Lake Valley in the early 1980's as an assistant for then head pro Bill Whitfield, and was our head pro for two and a half years before taking the head pro position at Lebanon Country Club, where he has been the past nine years.   Dan is excited to be back at Lake Valley and we're happy to have him back.

As you probably know, in addition to Steve leaving to take the Head Pro / G.M. position at Versailles,  we also lost Blaine Rideout who has taken on the Head Pro position at Eldon Country Club.   This should be a great opportunity for Blaine and we wish him well.

To replace Blaine, the club has hired
Andrea (Andi) Taylor to work as an assistant.   Her experience includes working in the pro shops at Tan-Tar-A and Dogwood Hills.  Andi played golf collegietely at SMSU.  Be sure to introduce yourself to Dan and Andi when you can!

March 1, 2001.  If you haven't heard yet, Prosky, Steve Nolawski, will be leaving Lake Valley later this month to take the  Head Professional / General Manager position at Rolling Hills in Versailles.  Steve has been with us since December 1995 and will be missed.   We wish him the best in this new position.
