The scholarship committee is responsible for selecting the recipient(s) of the scholarship annually, and for determining the amount(s) to be awarded.   The scholarship is awarded to a lake area student, preferably to someone who carries an interest in the game of golf on either a professional or recreational level.  The scholarship will be presented from interest which is earned on the scholarship fund.  The 2001 scholarship is expected to be at least $250, based on interest that is presently being earned by the scholarship fund.
     
Funding for the scholarship will grow through at least two different funding sources.  First,  we hope that members will request donations to the scholarship fund when a loved one passes away.  What better way to honor someone than by helping send a young person to college?   Second, the club will have occasional fund raising events, like an 18 hole tournament, with the net proceeds going to the scholarship fund.  

This scholarship was the idea of Steve and Nancy Hanks, as a way for us to honor our friends and loved ones in lieu of flowers or memorials.  Steve was a Lake Valley member for over 30 years, a three term Board member, and Board President in 1996.  When Steve passed away in September 2000 after a two year battle with cancer, donations were requested to establish the scholarship fund in lieu of flowers.  In the first month after Steve's passing, over $4,000 was contributed to the fund.  

This is a wonderful opportunity for our club to give something back to our community.

Congratulations to our 2007 Scholarship winner, Christopher (Chris) Jones.  Chris has worked as a cart attendant at LVCC for the past three summers, played on the Camdenton boys golf team, and is also the son of LVCC members Dennis & Kathy Jones.  Chris will be attending the University of Central Missouri (Warrensburg) this fall majoring in Computer Assisted Design / Drafting.
