CUSTOM FIT CLUBS
At Lake Valley, we are able to custom fit TaylorMade, Cobra, Callaway, Ping, and Titleist clubs in house. While many members and non-members have already taken advantage of this service, many folks aren’t aware of the benefits of having their clubs custom fit. There are many misconceptions about custom fitting and who would benefit from having custom fit clubs.
What is it?
Custom fitting is something that is done by qualified golf professionals during a private session with the person being fit. This session usually takes place on the range with the brand of club’s fitting cart nearby. This cart contains options for the given club to adjust clubs based on a person’s height, swing, posture, etc. The golf professional will determine the correct shaft length and flex, correct lie angle and set makeup that will work best for the player.
For Experienced Golfers…
Custom fitting is a must for the experienced golfer. Experienced golfers are already at the top of their game and custom fitting will add those additional yards and the fine tuning needed for the best possible game for these golfers.
For Beginning and Intermediate Golfers….
There is a common misconception that only the most experienced golfers need their clubs custom fit. Sure, it is easy enough to to find a used set of clubs to get your game started, but if you plan on playing for the long haul, you should invest in a custom fit set as soon as possible. As soon as you start playing golf, you start learning a swing based on the clubs you have. Many bad habits are built by players compensating for a club that doesn’t correctly fit or work for their height and posture. Having the perfect fitting club from the beginning can make for a more pleasant golf experience for these golfers as they develop a swing and habits that will best fit them over their lifetime.
Although you do not need to invest in an expensive custom set of clubs for a growing child, kids should have the right length shaft to match their height. At Lake Valley, we carry US Kids Golf clubs and can order a set of clubs to fit your child’s specific height. This will allow youth golfers to learn on clubs that are the correct length and weight to keep them from picking up bad compensation habits that could be hard to adjust later. Kids should outgrow a set of clubs not grow into them.
How Do I Get Fit?
You may call the Lake Valley Golf Shop, (573) 346-7218, during our regular business hours to schedule a Golf Fitting Lesson. These lessons can run from a half hour to a couple of hours, depending on the number of clubs being custom fit.
We have three golf professionals who are happy to help you achieve whatever your goals may be. The fitting lesson fee is waived with the purchase of a custom fit club/clubs.
Also, we have demo clubs like the new Taylor Made M5/M6 woods and irons, Cobra F9 woods, Callaway Epic Flash woods and irons, Titleist D2/D3 woods, and Ping G410 woods and irons that can be taken out on the course for a practice run during the club fitting process. We want you to be happy with your new set of clubs and we want them to work well for you and your game.
Often overlooked in the fitting process of a set are the wedges. We also fit your wedges to your swing type with the correct length, loft, lie, and bounce. Your angle of attack and desired shot flight determine the style and fit of wedge. Demos in the wedges are also available to take onto the course.
In the end, the decision to customize or not is completely up to you. You should weigh the options and decide how much you play golf and how important you want the strength of your game to be. You should also consider how much you want to spend – do you want to just have one or two clubs custom fit, or an entire set?
But, the bottom line is, your golf professionals are here for this very reason. Ask questions about custom fitting and get all of the information. Then you will be able to make the best choice for your game.
